Ataraxy: Soundscape Proj.

Calm Piano music. Peaceful, meditation, background music for studying | Listen Notes

Soundscape Proj.

My aim for this project was to create a soundscape that emulates meditation or deep listening practices with ambient and ethereal sounds that draw from nature and the human body. The idea that I wanted to be presented and what drove the meaning behind my soundscape project was one that can transport the listener to another place or another state of mind. I wanted the outdoor landscape (rain, wind chime, birds, and running water) to produce a calming effect on the listener. As well as give them the feeling of self-soothing which can be heard through the humming. I wanted my project to create what McLuhan states, “the desired psychological response in the listener”. Additionally, when looking for visuals to represent my project I stumbled across this picture which contains a lone tree in the middle of a body of water surrounded by a forest. I chose this visual to represent my project because I want my soundscape to represent serenity, tranquility, and peacefulness for the listener.

"The mimetic form, a technique that exploited rhythm, meter, and music, achieved the desired psychological response in the listener". (McLuhan pg. 114)

  1. I could seriously listen to this on repeat for hours! This was amazing and I feel like you accomplished everything that you wanted. Your McLuhan quote also emanates your purpose perfectly. When I sat down to listen to it, I found myself closing my eyes and you truly transported me to another place. I found myself in a state where I could be completely calm, relaxed and it helped me escape the physical world and my ongoing mind. I seriously might be listening to this next time I meditate. AMAZING!

  2. I really like this kind of music that makes you feel peaceful. I can hear a little bit of Buddhism, and at the same time I feel like I'm quiet when I hear this song. I think that's very rare.
